Why Local-First, Private AI

Restart onboarding, tune defaults, and adjust system behavior.

VanX is local-first by design. Your clips, notes, and documents live in SQLite databases inside this Mac's Application Support folder — there is no account, no sync service, no telemetry, and no cloud AI.

All AI and intelligence features (semantic search, summaries, suggestions, OCR) run on-device. Optional favicon, site-detail, media-preview, and Web Sources requests are separately consent-gated and off by default.

Where your data lives

VanX stores its library and local indexes inside this Mac's app container. Primary and engine stores are encrypted at rest with device Keychain-backed keys; encrypted-workspace content also uses per-workspace envelopes. Factory Reset removes VanX-managed local data and key material while preserving trial and purchase records.

What can touch the network

Optional favicons, site details, media previews, and Web Sources may make outbound requests when enabled. Research sends only the exact query and source policy you review for that run; no background feature uploads your clipboard history.

How sensitive content is handled

A local pattern engine detects credentials plus financial, identity, medical, and explicit content. Credentials and financial data are quarantined and auto-deleted within minutes unless pinned; every sensitive category is concealed and excluded from enrichment. Pinned quarantined items remain behind the in-app privacy lock, and every VanX store remains encrypted at rest.
